EXTREMELY RARE FIND
COMPLETE SLED RUNNER SET, with 1 spare piece

#ARTIF-850
The sled runner to beat all. WHAT A RARE RARE FIND, WE ARE SO
LUCKY TO HAVE THIS.
This came from a 25 year old stash, 1000 years old, that was found
by accident by Native Eskimo on St. Lawrence Island. The two decided
to take a break from digging for artifacts, went to sit down on the shore
and pushed his pole into the ground - it made a "chink!" sound,
he said "that's ivory" and started digging.
End result: a COMPLETE SET OF SLED RUNNERS and EVEN A SPARE
PIECE (lead runner replacement piece).
Tape on each section is to match the pieces together
correctly. Holes at the edges of each section are to lash the
sections together with sinew or other connecting rope.
====================
Set 1 is 60" long, 2-1/8 to 2-1/4" tall, and 1/2 to
5/8" thick
Weight: 4 pounds 6 ounces
Set A, B and C are 59-1/2" long, 2-1/4 to 2-1/2" tall, and
1/2 to 5/8" thick
Spare piece - see dimensions & weight above.
Junctures at A and D are breaks. The other separations are
intentional based on the size of walrus ivory used. They were
beveled/notched to fit together perfectly.
Weight: 4 pounds 4 ounces

EFFIGIES
MODERN
REPRODUCTIONS
These are carved by contemporary
Eskimo artists, with the intent of keeping the old skills and styles
alive, not with the intent of passing these off as genuine
artifacts. The talent is incredible.
It is also a warning to all you
artifact collectors to beware, because there ARE Native artists that will
try to sell similar pieces as genuine artifacts at high prices, when they
are not. |
