ABOUT MALACHITE: The name derives from “mallow” as it resembles the leaves of the mallow plant. Malachite is a copper carbonate hydroxide mineral, opaque, green banded mineral that crystallizes in a stalagmite form which is then sliced and polished for gemstone uses. This gem comes from the Democratic Republic of Congo in Africa though there are other mines where this gem is found. You may recall the “Malachite Room” paneled in malachite in Russia, there is also a Malachite Room in Castillo de Chapultepec in Mexico City.
