If you think some of the crocodiles living today are big, you should have seen some of their ancestors!  The biggest living crocodilian is the saltwater crocodile, almost 28 feet long.  But 70 million years ago, there was a crocodile that was FIFTY FEET LONG, named Phobosuchus, which means "terrible crocodile".  His HEAD was six feet long, and it had TEETH four inches long!  Here's a comparison:

GATOR SWIMMING WITH DEER IN MOUTH

These photographs were taken in south Georgia (near the Georgia/South Carolina border) by a USFWS officer in March 2004:

The photographs of this deer-eating alligator were taken from the air by Terri Jenkins, a U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service District Fire Management Officer. She was preparing to ignite a prescribed fire at Harris Neck National Wildlife Refuge, about 40 miles south of Savannah, Georgia, on March 4, 2004.

"One advantage of fire work is you get to see that 12-14 footers are common from Santee National Wildlife Refuge in South Carolina to Coastal South Carolina to Georgia's coast," said Jenkins. "It looks like the alligator population is doing extremely well."

The craziest sports-related wedding cake any human has ever created- it's the Gator Cake, a piece of art from Elizabeth Forkey, the owner of EB Cakes in Toccoa, Georgia.

Everything you see in that picture is edible. The gator, its scales, the eyeballs. All of it.

An explanation of the building process from Ms. Forkey:

"I designed it and my husband helped me make the supports inside. Really the only supports are two pipes (one for each jaw) screwed into the bottom board. The head is rice crispy treat and the body and tail are Chocolate Almond Pound Cake. The little field on top has the Groom's favorite Florida players and himself and his bride in Jerseys. This cake was pee your pants fun."

 

This crocodile was on the beach in front of the Petroleum Club, Plage

Sportive, Nigeria (Africa)...In Pointe Noire. 21 FT long, 4,500 lbs, around 80 years old minimum. They say these croc was so old and slow it couldn't catch nothing to eat but people. This is the reason they had to kill it. Shell Oil is building a refinery down there and the croc had to go.

What a shame it couldn't have been transported to a zoo with a natural habitat so we could all appreciate it alive.
